The values we would like to provide to our audience.
We offer diverse programs, from classical ballet to contemporary dance in one performance, so the audience can find dances that match their taste and could enjoy.
The participating dancers are ranging from rising fresh stars to world class prima ballerinas/principal dancers.

The values we would like to provide to our dancers
We would like to offer an atmosphere so the participating dancers can communicate each other. Communication beyond companies, between the same generation and also between young dancers and experienced dancers, so this could be a valuable experience for them

The values we would like to provide to the ballet world
We are offering a diverse program and a diverse choice of participants, so the audience will not be just fans of specific dancers, but also people who experience ballet for the first time and also a diverse one. For instance, children learning classical ballet will know the fascination of contemporary dance, and many would feel such as “ballet is not just dancing in white tutus”, and their typical prejudice will change. We hope to contribute to the development of ballet culture in Japan, and there will be more people getting interested in the art of ballet.

Message from the producer Tomohiro Yoshida
Yokohama Ballet Festival

We have managed to carry out the 3rd Yokohama Ballet Festival, that inagurated in 2015. We have been so grateful to the audience that supported us, the dancers that came to perform from all over the world, Kanagawa Kenmin Hall that co-produces this gala, all the sponsors and collaboraters and would like to express our appreciation.

This time we have been able to have two performances Program A and Program B instead of just once.
We will try to show our audience the various charm of the dancers, diverse choreography, and stage directing that makes the gala look like a full length performance that would be even more emjoyable when the audience sees both programs.
So we would be so happy if the audience could attend both performances.

One of the main attractions of the “Fresher’s Gala” is the performance by Juene Ballet Yokohama, which is our young dancers nuturing project for the future. The winners of the 2015 and 2015 Audition have joined this project as well so we will be able to see how the dancers have grown.

At “World Premium”, not only the audience can enjoy top dancers of today, but also works from top choreographers rarely seen in Japan.

We have lovely memories of the smiling faces of the audience that seemed to truly enjoyed the performance while we greeted them after the gala last year. We, the artistic director and the whole team will work hard this year to aim to provide even more joy, emotion, excitement, and laughter than last year. We will do our best to make the performance day one of the best days of the year for our audience.

Message from Artistic Director Yasuyuki Endo
We are happy and proud that the Yokohama Ballet Festival launched in 2015 will have its third performance this year.
Carrying on gives us strength. It is my huge pleasure that the festival which aimed to evolve in a long span from the beginning is growing and expanding, and little by little our concept is turning into reality.
This year, Yokohama Ballet Festival will be held for 2 days, Program A and B.
We have invited attractive dancers with great choreography so that the audience can be dazzled by the wonder of dance on both dates.

Such luminaries join our gala, such as the refined Misa Kuranaga of Boston Ballet a dazzling star in USA, the virtuoso couple Ako Kondo and Chengwu Guo from Australian Ballet. Ema Yuasa, former dancer at NDT and Anton Valdbauer of Royal Swedish Ballet who are trusted by the great choreographer Mats Ek will premiere his Juliet and Romeo in Japan. And Mikio Kato of Royal Flanders Ballet will dance Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s (he is one of the most popular choreographers today) world premiere.

Moreover,Jeune Ballet Yokohama, a project aimed to nuture global dancers of the future will be inagurated this year with a group of young and fresh, talented dancers.
I myself am enlightened with their infinite, youthful power and am very excited. There are still many announcements to be made.
We are looking forward seeing you all on June 9th and 10th at Kanagawa Kenmin Hall, with the prospect of meeting a brand new excitement.
